Comparing Plastic Injection Mold Types
At ICOMold, we give you options for the type of plastic injection mold that’s best for you based on your part volume and other factors. Here’s a brief description of our injection mold types:
Prototype / Low-Volume
This type of mold is best for prototypes and low volumes of parts. The molds are lower-cost than production molds, quickly-built, and warranteed for 10,000 parts. These are available in either hardened steel or aluminum – visit this page of our website to learn about the differences between the two materials.
Production
Production molds are built to withstand high production volumes. We’ll maintain (and repair, if necessary) your mold at our cost for as long as we are making your parts.
Export
Occasionally, the customer wants us to make the mold for them, but they want to produce the parts in another facility. In this case, we will manufacture the mold and export it to the customer’s designated facility. Optionally, we can also run as many parts as needed off the mold before we ship it out.
Family
With any of the above mold types, we can also save you money on tool charges by combining multiple parts of similar size and of the same quantity and material into a single family mold.
